Join us for an evening of masterful jazz as Vern Sielert — Accomplished trumpet virtuoso and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Idaho — brings his dynamic ensemble to the stage. A sought-after educator and performer, Dr. Sielert’s storied career includes directing the University of Washington Jazz Ensembles, faculty appointments at Baylor, Illinois State, and Millikin Universities, and performances with legends from Freddie Hubbard to the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. He holds degrees in Jazz Studies, Music Education, and a DMA in Trumpet Performance, and his transcriptions appear regularly in the Journal of the International Trumpet Guild.
Joining Vern are Seattle-area stalwarts Greg Williamson and Heather Chriscaden, whose intuitive interplay and deep feel have graced clubs and festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest. Rounding out the quartet is Boise’s own Alex Sjobeck, a rising piano talent known for his lyrical touch and rhythmic drive. Together, this all-star lineup will explore a repertoire that spans swinging standards, contemporary originals, and Sielert’s own compositions and arrangements.
